Tree Removal Sequence

Tree Pruning

The process of removing select branches from a tree, pruning is done to make the tree safer, healthier and more attractive or to improve your view. Pruning improves the health, life span and appearance of trees by removing undesirable branches, whether they are dead, weakened, diseased or insect-infested. Our arborists can determine the type of pruning necessary to maintain or improve the health, appearance, and safety of your trees. Other reasons to prune include:

  • Eliminating branches that rub each other
  • Pruning limbs that interfere with wires, building facades, gutters, roofs, chimneys, or windows, or obstruct streets or sidewalks
  • Establishing better structure to lessen wind resistance and reduce the potential for storm damage
  • Training young trees
  • Removing limbs damaged by adverse weather conditions
  • Thinning, to increase light penetration
  • Improving the shape or silhouette of the tree

Types of pruning include:

Thinning: Maintains the natural shape but removes foliage throughout. Can improve your view without sacrificing your trees.

Skirting: Removes the lower limbs of the tree. Also a good choice for enhancing views.

Windowing: Removes branches to form a window, thus improving the view.

Crown Reduction: Frequently performed on large trees, especially dense pine trees, located near buildings. Up to a third of the total area is removed in a single operation. This allows wind to move through the tree and reduces the chance of tree failure. Also, more light and air can reach the inner portion of the tree, which reduces needle drop. Crown reduction can make for a healthier, safer, more attractive tree.

Crown Cleaning: The removal of problematic branches from the tree’s crown. This commonly includes dead, dying, diseased, crowded or dangerous branches. Very little of the live crown is removed.

Stump Grinding

Quick, clean and efficient, stump grinding removes stumps from your landscaping. The stump is ground down 6 to 8 inches below ground level. Rather than having stumps that can last for decades and become unsightly as they age, and having suckers and shoots that can continuously become a problem until the stump dies; grinding the stump allows immediate use of the area where a stump used to be and avoids these problems.

Chipping is a method debris removal. It is more economical than hauling and safer than burning. Also, you can use the resulting chips for mulch, landscape bark and erosion control.

Insect and Disease Control

Damage and destruction caused by insects and diseases can severely limit a tree or shrub’s ability to manufacture the sugars and substances needed to remain healthy. As a tree’s health suffers and declines, the odds for defoliation and death sharply increase. A specialized program for trees and shrubs is the most logical step toward managing the spread of harmful insects and devastating diseases.

Shrub Pruning

Just like with trees, proper pruning improves the health and appearance of shrubs. It prolongs their useful life by removing undesirable branches, such as dead, weakened, diseased or insect-infested. We know the proper pruning procedures to help promote healthy growth.

Storm Damage

Storms can rip through an area and leave major damage in their wake. Storms may cause limbs or entire trees to fall, often landing on other trees, homes and other structures, or cars. The weight of storm-damaged trees is great, and they can be dangerous to remove or trim. Our qualified technicians provide the expertise needed to carefully clear trees, branches and debris while reducing further risk of life and damage to property.

Some arborists plant trees, and most can recommend types of trees that are appropriate for a specific location. The wrong tree in the wrong location could lead to future problems as a result of limited growing space, insects, diseases, or poor growth.

Plant Health Care

Preventive maintenance to keep trees and shrubs in good health. This will help the tree better defend itself against insects, disease, and site problems
